Using the InfraMarker App

You’ve probably read a thing or two about InfraMarker’s ability to make marking and locating buried assets easier, faster, and safer. The next question is:

How do I access the various features of the mobile app to streamline and improve my work in the field?

To illustrate how the InfraMarker app integrates into the larger RFID marking and locating system, we’ve created two brief videos to walk you through these processes step-by-step.

Let’s start with writing RFID tags using InfraMarker’s convenient mobile app.

Writing to RFID Tags Using the InfraMarker Mobile App

To review and summarize the information and processes covered in the video, let’s start by doing a quick equipment check.

To write to an RFID tag, you need the following items:

  1. An Andoid smartphone enabled with the InfraMarker App
  2. An InfraMarker RFID Reader/Writer
  3. An InfraMarker-enabled RFID tag

With these in-hand, we can get started writing tags quickly and easily. Here’s a brief rundown of the steps involved:

In the field, open the InfraMarker app and log in. This will generate a map centered on your location. The map will display any nearby assets as pins on the map.

To write a new tag, begin by scanning for the InfraMarker Reader/Writer you happen to be using.

With the map displayed on the smartphone, touch the pencil icon located in the upper right corner of the screen and tap the “Device” icon on the next page. If you’ve already paired an InfraMarker Reader, those devices will appear in a list you can select from. To scan for a new one, simply tap “Scan for Devices” and select the device’s name once it’s recognized by the App.

Check the Reader/Writer to make sure the blue light is steadily lit. This indicates the Reader/Writer has successfully connected. Now we can start writing the tag’s data.

Select the tag for writing by refreshing the tags in the App’s list. With the correct tag selected, tap the appropriate organization, template, and scroll down to begin filling in the tag’s attributes with information such as Utility Type, Function, Material, etc.

Once the attributes are entered, you can adjust the latitude and longitude positions of the tag, set the correct depth, and add photos and videos to the tag’s profile to give others the ability to quickly locate the tag in the future.

With all the attributes in place, simply tap, “Write Tag,” and the wait for confirmation. The information you entered will automatically be sent to the Cloud for storage.

Locating Enabled Assets Using the InfraMarker Mobile App

What you’ll need:

  1. An Android smartphone enabled with the InfraMarker App
  2. An InfraMarker RFID Reader/Writer
  3. An magnetic locator

Let’s run through the simple steps of locating and verifying assets using InfraMarker.

We begin the process again inside the InfraMarker App found on the smartphone.

You can use the control buttons at the bottom of the screen to switch between satellite view and map view as well as selecting asset filters to focus on the specific type of asset you’ll be working with.

Tagged assets will appear as pins on the map, which can be tapped to reveal a brief overview of the tag you’ve selected. Simply tap “More Details” to pull up a screen showing more information such as the asset’s description, location coordinates, depth, installation date, and more.

To help the technician get to the asset as quickly as possible, the “Navigate to Asset” button will automatically use the worker’s current location to show directions directly to the asset’s location on the map.

Once on location, the technician can tap the “Media” button within the InfraMarker App to view photos and video to help locate the general area of the asset in question.

Then, using the magnetic locator, workers can pinpoint the precise location of the tag and corresponding asset from the surface.

To be certain the asset in question is the one they’re looking for, the technician can use the Reader/Writer to read the tag right from their smartphone after connecting the two devices via Bluetooth.

In just a few quick steps, tags can be written and read directly from the field, ensuring a quicker, safer, more accurate system for managing a variety of underground assets.
