The surveying profession faces many hazards on a daily basis from high and low speed travel on or near our nation's motorways. Usually working in teams of two or more, concentration is placed on the task at hand and traffic hazards become a secondary concern. In 2002, over 1000 individuals were killed in work zones on our nations highways. Federal regulations requiring high visibility clothing and advanced warning signs pertains not only to construction and maintenance workers, but to anyone working in or near active traffic lanes. 36" X 36" and 48" X 48" High visibility advanced warning signs are required in most states.
