Lexi Cook and Christopher Thorson’s vacation travels allowed them to physically be in four states at the same time. With a visit to the Four Corners Monument (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah), Lexi and Christopher joined thousands of people who visit this monument annually.

 

The Four Corners Monument is located ¼ mile west of US Highway 169, six miles north of Teec Nos Pos, Arizona and 40 miles southwest of Cortez, Colorado and is the only place in the Unites States where four states come together at one place.

 

Surveys of the area began in 1868 and a small permanent marker was erected in 1912. In the summer of 1992, the Bureau of Land Management from the four states joined forces to remonument and refurbish this important state corner. Berntsen was proud to play a significant part in the remonumentation by providing the new bronze tablet, 8 inches in diameter and 3 inches thick embedded in granite to mark this point. To accommodate the many thousands of visitors who touch and stand on the site, this marker was made from a highly-durable, corrosion-resistant, aluminum-bronze alloy. The inscription on the marker was engraved to a depth of approximately one inch or about 32 times deeper than the previous marker.
