The surveying profession faces many hazards on a daily basis from high- and low-speed travel on or near our nation’s motorways. Usually working in teams of two or more, concentration is placed on the task at hand and traffic hazards become a secondary concern. In 2002, over 1000 individuals were killed in work zones on our nation's highways. Federal regulations requiring high-visibility clothing and advanced warning signs pertain not only to construction and maintenance workers, but to anyone working in or near active traffic lanes.  36" X 36" and 48" X 48" high-visibility advanced warning signs are required in most states.
