Underground Locators
Perfect for construction, utilities, excavating, and surveying projects – underground locators are able to locate buried objects, like utility lines, pipes, marker magnets, MAGNAILS, and rebar. Professionals use them to quickly and accurately locate static objects, streamlining excavation processes and avoiding costly damages.
The depth at which you can detect an object depends on the type of locator as well as the material, mass, and environment of the asset. For example, a non-metallic pipeline can’t be detected as far underground as a larger object, like a septic tank.
Underground Magnetic Locators
We offer a variety of Schonstedt magnetic locators, which are known for their precision and durability in surveying applications. These devices use advanced magnetic sensing technology to detect buried ferrous metals with exceptional accuracy. Their adjustable sensitivity settings, ergonomic designs, and rugged construction ensure optimal performance in a variety of environments and conditions.
It's important to note that magnetic locators cannot detect non-ferrous materials, like aluminum or copper; they’re specifically designed to detect metal objects made of ferrous materials. That includes items like:
- Cast iron pipes
- Property markers
- Steel enclosures
- Nails
- Manhole covers
- Septic tanks
- Valve boxes
- Well casings
Pipe and Cable Locators
detect metal objects directly. Instead, they target objects, using a transmitter to induce an electrical charge or signal.
Underground pipe and cable locators are designed to detect metallic pipes, cables, and conduits. With three different operating modes, the Rex Schonstedt pipe and cable locator is able to locate lines and wires for electric and telecom, water and sewer, and gas and oil.
Sonde Locators
Sonde and camera locators are specialized tools used for locating non-metallic items, like pipes, ducts, sewers, and drains. These locators are able to precisely locate blockages or collapses, and they’re perfect for underground utility mapping and pipeline inspections.
Even with its small, portable design, the XT-512 sonde and camera locator offers pinpoint location and depth measurement capabilities.

Please note that only one trade-in credit is allowed per new unit purchase. When trading in a REX, both the receiver and transmitter are required for one trade credit.
Traded units must be completely taken out of service by destroying the equipment, so it’s no longer usable or serviceable. Picture documentation of the destroyed equipment, displaying the serial numbers, is required at the time of purchase. Traded units will not be eligible for repairs of any kind.
